FEATURED: Samuel Boadu; A Genius living on borrowed time

In the just-ended Ghana Premier League transfer window, clubs signed to properly augment their squad to compete for honors in the upcoming league.

One club that was largely active was, Accra based side, Hearts of Oak for a club of its magnitude and stature it was clearly no doubt that they would dip into the market and sign lads for the technical team led by Samuel Boadu ahead of his African continental showdown.

A season ago, he failed dismally in both the CAF-organized competitions at the hands of his North African opponents, fast forward to this season, and it’s looking as though the gaping holes in the team have been fixed if not completely.

The club signed more than 10 players, an entire string of a new team to don the jersey of the club for the new season, notable amongst the signings were, Konadu Yiadom, Eric Esso, Yassan Ouatching, Junior Kaaba, Prince Darmang, Eric Ofori Antwi and others.

In the first game of the season, Hearts lost their first match of the season to Aduana Stars, one of the favorites for the league title.

For me, a loss to tagged favorites for the league wasn’t surprising because this was a side, they had lost out to in prior encounters, so it was always going to be difficult to churn results up north in Dorma.

In the crucial Mantse derby, Hearts were looking to unwrite a record of 4 winless games against Great Olympics, which stretches back to 2020.

In the end, they pulled off a draw with the Dade boys at the Accra Sports Stadium courtesy a debut goal from Boakye Yiadom.

This draw only makes matters worse for Samuel Boadu’s as they have not won a league game in 7 league matches, a run that spans back to their last victory which came against Bibiani Gold Stars.

Hearts’ next game is much of a daunting task away to Kotoko, a venue they have struggled to impress lately and against a side that have been bundled out of the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League.

If Boadu has something of a  magic wand, he needs to use it in the upcoming game as patience is running thin and tempers are flaring up amongst the teeming fans of the club.

Hopefully, the coming weeks set the tone for what the direction of the club would be technical as a genius lives on borrowed time.
