Twenty-five-time Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko, per trusted sources, have held encouraging discussions about a move for UK-born Ghanaian coach Chris Baffour-Akoto.

    ‎
‎The Kumasi club is looking for a permanent head coach, and it is understood that Baffour-Akoto has emerged as the top pick for the role after leaving Luxembourg Premier League side Titus Petange due to work permit restrictions. However, the Porcupine Warriors are not expected to rush a final decision on who to appoint.

‎The Kings club made Hamza Obeng interim head coach following two managerial casualties in the just-ended season. Substantive head coach Karim Zito then mutually stepped down following incessant pressure from the Porcupine fan base to see their darling club win matches. It was the same for his assistant coach, Prince Yaw Owusu, who succumbed to the mounting pressure a month before the end of the season.
    ‎
‎The club’s hierarchy is confident of attracting a quality coach who can satisfy the fan base’s cravings. Big figures around the club are excited by Baffour-Akoto’s potential as the club seeks a new direction.

‎The UEFA Licence A holder announced himself as one of the best young managers in the 2024/25 Division One League, having guided Rospak FC to a 2nd-place finish. He secured 59 points, scored 50 goals, and won over 18 matches. He has also managed Crawley U-21 and Fort William.
    ‎
‎There is a feeling inside Asante Kotoko that Baffour-Akoto’s style of play would make him suited to their young squad. The former Black Stars and Ghana U-20 video assistant coach’s standing in the game would help him control the dressing room and could also help attract players to the club.

‎There have been some discussions between the two parties. It is clear that Asante Kotoko wants an early appointment so the coach can familiarise himself with the club’s structures and the players.
