Nigeria’s hopes of advancing to the intercontinental playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup suffered a huge blip as they lost in a dramatic penalty shootout to DR Congo on Sunday night.
The Super Eagles beat Gabon in a 4-1 resounding victory to get to the final while Congo DR defied all odds to beat Camerron in the other pairing.
Frank Onyeka opened the scoring in less than 10 minutes of the game as his strike took a massive hit of the DR Congo player, Axel Tuanzebe to scale past goalkeppper, Lionel Mpasi-Nzau for the opneer.
DR Congo were not detered from going behind as they curated several chances of their own. They found the much needed equaliser in the 32nd minute through Meschack Elia struck whose strike from close range beat Stanley Nwabili in post for the Nigeraisn.

The game proceeded to penalties after the full game annd 30 minutes of half time.
Nigeria converted three of their six attempts.
DR Congo scored four with Chancel Mbemba scoring the decisive winning penalty.
