Ghana champions Medeama SC secured a memorable win over Algerian side CR Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League on Friday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The host lost their first game in the Champions League to Egyptian heavyweights, Al Ahly, and needed to be amended for that loss with a win over their opponents from Algeria.

Coach Evans Adotey in his pre-game interview opined that he was fully focused on getting a win in his side’s first home game of Africa’s elite competition.

The Tarkwa-based side came close to opening the scoring through, Kamaradini Mamudu but his header from a corner kick hit the post.

Midfielder Abdelraouf Benguit opened the scoring for the visitors through a penalty in the 39th minute after Ishak Talal Boussouf was fouled inside the box.

Former WAFA product, Daniel Lomotey was quick to pounce on a free-kick from Kamaradini Mamudu to aid his side to that much-needed equalizer on the stroke of halftime.

The two sides ended the first half with a goal apiece.

Medeama were rewarded for their relentless resilience which came in the dying embers of the game as Kamaradini Mamudu ross the highest to head home a sweet cross from the right foot off, Kwadwo Amoako.

The Yellow and Mauves will hope to build on this win as they host Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC in a fortnight at the same venue.
