Asante Kotoko’s woes in the African inter-club competition continued as they fell to their Burkinabè counterparts, RC Kadiogo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

In a game that saw the host hold the advantage from the first leg through the last gasp Isaac Oppong goal, it was expected that the side would continue off where they left off in Benin.

Coach Seydou Zerbo facing familiar foes in Kadiogo would name a strong lineup to do honors for the championship-winning side of Ghana but they failed to redeem themselves after going down in 15 minutes of the game.

An attacking trio of George Mfegue, Samuel Boateng, and Steven Mukwala would probe for the equalizer but the away side stayed resolute to protect their solitary lead.

The second half started in frantic fashion, as the host pushed for the equalizer, there were separate efforts from Isaac Oppong, Sarfo Taylor, and Samuel Boateng but all failed to hit the back of the net.

The two sides had to be separated through penalties as the game ended 1-1 on aggregate.

The Burkinabès ended the game victors in the penalty shootout, winning 1-3.

Sadly, Kotoko have lost 12 out of their last 12 penalty shoot-outs in Africa.

Kadiogo would move ahead and play AS Vita Club of Congo in the next round of the competition.
