A former member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council, Samuel Oduro Nyarko, has urged local players chosen for the Black Stars to be consistent to merit starting spot when called up.

This comes following the inability of a single local-based player in the ongoing betPawa Premier League to secure a spot in Chris Hughton’s first squad announcement for the doubleheader of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola in March 2023.

According to the football administrator, if players from the ongoing league display consistency in their performance, they can command regular call-ups from the technical handlers of the BlackStars handlers.

“It is about performance, it is about sustaining your level of performance in the national team,”

“If you are selected from the local league and you maintain your form and can prove that you have what it takes to play in the Black Stars, I think you will be kept there.

“It is important you lift your game when you are given the chance to play in the Black Stars and also fit into the level of the foreign-based players.

“If you don’t and you flop, you get dropped from the national team.” he told  Citi Sports.

Since, Hughton’s appointment as BlackStars coach, he has been seen on at several venues (Accra, Kumasi, Dawu, Tamale) watching games and penciling some players down for possible call ups.
