The Super Eagles of Nigeria have opted out of their  2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game against Libya.

This follows what the Nigerians have declared as inhumane treatment given to them by their host, Libya.

According to them, their scheduled flight to Benghazi was diverted to Al Labraq.

The Nigeria team of players, technical team, officials, and other high-ranking government officials were left stranded and frustrated without food, water, internet connectivity, and other essentials for more than 14 hours.

Several Nigeria players,  captain, William Troost Ekong, and Victor Boniface have had turns to express their disappointment on the treatment meted out to them by the North African outfit.

Been at the airport for almost 13 hours no food no wifi no where to sleep

12+ hours in an abandoned airport in Lybia after our plane was diverted whilst descending. Lybian government rescinded our approved landing in Benghazi with no reason. They’ve locked the airport gates and left us without phone connection, food or drink. All to play mind games.

But in a sharp turn of events, the Libyan Football Federation has come out to dispel suggestions that they did all these in retaliation for purported bad treatment suffered in Nigeria for the first leg.

CAF has however announced that it will investigate the matter to the latter.

This development has made the Nigeria team based on medical withdraw from participating in the game on health grounds.
