The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Executive Committee (“EXCO”) today unanimously decided that the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (“AFCON”) will return to taking place every Two Years.

The President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe announced at the CAF Strategy Conference in Cabo Verde which was held from 7-9 October 2026, that the CAF EXCO would be re-assessing and reconsidering the decision it took last year, for the AFCON to take place every Four Years.

This reassessment and reconsideration was necessitated by, amongst other matters, the recognition that the proposed new Africa Nations League Pan-African Competition which was supposed to replace the current AFCON and take place every two years, would require several years in order to be in a position, to contribute the substantial financial resources necessary, for the CAF Competitions and African Football to be globally competitive and self-supporting.

The CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “The decision by the CAF EXCO that the CAF AFCON should take place every Two Years was based on advancing, protecting and promoting the interest of African Football and CAF’s 54 Member Associations, as well as the interest of African players employed by Football Clubs outside Africa.

The next TotalEnergies CAF AFCON will take place in 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda

The subsequent AFCONs thereafter will take place in 2028, 2031 and 2033.

FC Ashantigold has terminated the contracts of head coach and technical director Abdul Karim Kabutey Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere, and goalkeeper trainer Robert Dabo with immediate effect.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, the club said the decision followed a consultative meeting of the Interim Management Committee held on Monday, 26 October.

A caretaker coach has been appointed to oversee the team until a permanent head coach and technical director is named.

Chief Executive Officer Edward Kwasi Akuoko expressed the club’s gratitude to the three officials for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Nana Kofi Babil’s 82nd-minute winner proved decisive in the Medeama SC-Aduana Stars clash.

Medeama, seeking a response after their first defeat of the season (a 2-1 loss to FC Samartex), pressed throughout. Babil finally broke the deadlock to secure all three points.

Both teams lined up their best arsenals, but the hosts dominated possession (56%) and created far more chances, 15 shots to 4, with 6 on target versus 1, while Aduana.

The first half ended goalless.

The second half was a bit different to the first one, with the home team probing more for goal-scoring opportunities.

With eight minutes to end proceedings, Nana Babil reacted quickest to nod in the home team’s first goal, which proved to be the match winner.

Medeama will travel to Kotoko, and Aduana will be at home to Berekum Chelsea.
