30 in Full Swing: MTN Ghana Celebrates 30 Years with CEO Invitational Golf Tournament
On Saturday, 12th September 2026, the fairways of Achimota Golf Club played host to something bigger than a golf tournament. As part of a year-long celebration of MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary, the telecommunications giant brought together CEOs, business leaders, partners and media for the CEO Invitational Golf Competition. A fitting tribute to three decades, described aptly as “30 years of progress, powered by Ghanaians.”
Under bright morning skies, guests gathered not just to play a round of golf, but to mark a milestone few could have imagined when MTN first teed off in the Ghanaian market three decades ago.
A Game of Patience, Not Instant Results
Addressing guests, fellow golfers and colleagues, MTN Ghana Board Chairman Mr. Ishmael Yamson set the tone for the day with an analogy that would carry through his entire speech: golf, much like building a company, rewards patience over impulse.

He reminded the room that a round of golf isn’t won on the first hole, but through eighteen holes of “consistent, deliberate, honest effort”. Adjusting to the wind, reading the terrain, and recovering from the unexpected bunker. It’s a lesson, he said, that mirrors MTN Ghana’s own three-decade journey: a company that teed off in a market with no guarantees, no certainty that mobile money would become a lifeline for millions, and no clear line of sight to the tens of millions of subscribers it now serves.
The Rough, and the Recovery
True to the spirit of golf, Mr. Yamson didn’t shy away from acknowledging the harder holes along the way. He called them “regulatory bunkers, competitive hazards” and storms that forced the company to pause and recalibrate. But he was equally clear that a good golfer doesn’t abandon the round over one bad hole; they adjust their club and play smart from wherever the ball has landed. That resilience, he noted, has defined MTN Ghana’s journey as much as any milestone or achievement.
He was also quick to point out that no one plays this game alone. From engineers climbing masts in the rain, to customer service agents patiently guiding first-time mobile money users, to regulators who pushed the company to do better — the Chairman credited MTN Ghana’s thirty years of progress to the sum of everyone who has played a part in it.

The Back Nine Awaits
Perhaps the most resonant moment of the speech was its look forward. Mr. Yamson was candid that an “extraordinary front nine”, one that connected a nation, extended financial inclusion, and helped write Ghana’s digital transformation story, is only half the round. The back nine, he said, is where character is truly tested, and it comes with new holes still to play: nationwide fibre expansion, the rollout of 5G, artificial intelligence, and a deepening commitment to reaching communities still without so much as a single bar of signal.
He closed with a toast to the thirty years behind MTN Ghana, and to the “many more holes still to play” ahead, a fitting sentiment for a company celebrating three decades while keeping its eyes firmly on the next.

On the Course
Beyond the speeches, the day itself delivered everything a CEO Invitational should: friendly competition, good company, and a shared appreciation for a sport that, as Mr. Yamson put it, is as “humbling” as it is “character-building.” CEOs and business leaders from across Ghana’s corporate landscape took to the course, trading boardrooms for the fairway for an afternoon of golf, connection, and celebration.

Emmanuella Adzi joins Indian Women’s League side Sethu FC from Cabfix Ladies
Ghanaian defender Emmanuella Adzi has completed a move to Indian women’s football club Sethu Football Club, signing a contract that will see her feature in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) until the end of the season.
The move marks an exciting new chapter for the young Ghanaian, who makes the switch after an impressive spell with Cabfix Ladies FC in the Greater Accra Regional Football Association (GARFA) Women’s Division One League.
Adzi established herself as a dependable figure in the Cabfix Ladies defence, delivering consistent performances throughout the 2025/26 GARFA Women’s Division One League season. She featured in every league match, playing a key role as Cabfix Ladies finished third in the competition.
Her consistency and contribution to the team earned her recognition as one of the club’s standout performers, with a Player of the Season-level campaign that underlined her importance to the squad.
She was also part of the Cabfix Ladies squad that secured a bronze-medal finish at the 2026 Cheetah Cup during the 2026/27 pre-season, adding another achievement to her time with the club.
Adzi’s move also makes her the second Cabfix Ladies player to secure a transfer ahead of the 2026/27 season, following Hannah Quaye’s recent move. The two transfers represent another significant development for the club as its players continue to attract opportunities beyond the domestic league.
Her move to Sethu FC offers an opportunity to test herself in a new football environment and gain valuable experience in one of Asia’s competitive women’s club leagues.
Based in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Sethu FC compete in the Indian Women’s League, India’s top-tier women’s football competition. The club won the league title in the 2018/19 season.
Adzi’s move also comes after she recently joined Clava Sports Agency, marking another step in her professional journey.
Having earned a reputation for her consistency and dependability at Cabfix Ladies, the Ghanaian defender will now look to make her mark in India and seize the opportunity presented by her move to Sethu FC.
Her transfer is another encouraging development for Ghanaian women’s football, as local players continue to seek opportunities to showcase their abilities beyond the domestic league.

Harry Kane wins Ballon d’Or
England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been crowned the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, becoming the first Englishman to claim football’s most prestigious individual award since Michael Owen in 2001.
The 33-year-old received the golden ball at the London Palladium on Monday evening, capping an extraordinary 2025-26 campaign in which he scored an astonishing 73 goals across club and country. Kane also collected the Gerd Müller Trophy as the world’s top striker for the same prolific output.
Kane’s haul included 36 Bundesliga goals that powered Bayern to the league title, 14 in the Champions League, and 12 for England (including six at the World Cup, where the Three Lions finished third). He helped Bayern secure a domestic double with the DFB-Pokal as well.
The award makes Kane only the fifth English winner in Ballon d’Or history, following Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Owen. He is also the first Bayern Munich player to win it in 45 years.
