WAFA withdraw from Division One League to focus on youth development.

Among the reasons cited by the club for this decision is their new policy direction, emphasizing the development of young football talents through their academy system in Sogakope, located in the Volta Region.

In response to WAFA’s withdrawal, the GFA’s Executive Council will use its authority under Article 78 of the GFA Statutes to find a replacement for WAFA in the Division One League, Zone 2, as per previous precedents.

It’s worth mentioning that WAFA is renowned for producing notable footballers like former Black Stars defender Harrison Afful, Samuel Tetteh, the late Christian Atsu, and Majeed Ashimeru, among others.

As the upcoming season approaches, all stakeholders and clubs in the Division One League Zone 2 should be aware of WAFA’s withdrawal from the competition.
