Sports Ministry spokesperson, Charles Amofa explains,  Ghana’s AFCON 2023 budget to be revealed post-tournament

Charles Amofa, the representative for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has indicated that the financial plan designated for Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be revealed once the tournament concludes in Ivory Coast.

Speaking to Angel FM, Amofa highlighted that the specifics of the budget for this major continental event are still being finalized. He encouraged the nation’s citizens to back the team and await a detailed report on the budget after the tournament wraps up.

He said, “The AFCON budget is a work in progress. Ghanaians will know after the tournament. For now, we will entreat everyone to pray for the team.”

Coach Chris Hughton has wrapped up the team’s preparations for the event, with midfielder Mohammed Kudus joining the squad.

After completing their training in Kumasi on Tuesday, the four-time African champions are heading to Ivory Coast, the tournament’s host nation.

During a farewell ceremony in Kumasi, President Nana Akufo-Addo met with the team, motivating them to strive for victory and secure Ghana’s fifth AFCON title after a 42-year gap.

The event was highlighted by a performance from Afro dancehall sensation Stonebwoy.

Ghana’s quest to end their long AFCON title drought begins with a match against Cape Verde on January 14, 2024. They will then face Egypt on January 18 and Mozambique on January 22 in Group B matches.
