    Special Competition: Diawisie the hero as Karela United cruise into finals

    Coach Johnson Smith’s side have progressed to the finals of the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition following a victory over Ashanti Gold.



    Karela United FC managed to record a 1-0 away victory over Ashanti Gold SC in the semi-final at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
    The first department of the match was balanced as both sides created several goal glaring opportunities but failed to find the back of the net.
    Defender Isaac Kwain’s early cross wide went as goalkeeper Isaac Hagan denied Shafiu Mumuni to grab the opener for Ashanti Gold SC on the 13th minute.
    Goalkeeper Frank Boateng made two brilliant saves to deny Diawisie Taylor and Isaac Kwain from scoring before the break.
    In-form Diawisie Taylor’s powerful header on the half-hour mark was denied by the woodwork.
    In the last fifteen minutes of the match, Ashanti Gold SC dominated the match with Latif Anaibila, Shafiu Mumuni and Mark Agyekum tried their luck with audacious shots.
    The first half of the match ended in a scoreless draw.



    After the break, Karela United gained possession of the match with brilliant passes and fearsome attacks.
    Winger Amos Nkrumah and Richard Djodi could have bagged the opener for the Miners lads but their strikes went wide.
    Solomon Sarfo Taylor and Patrick Yeboah also tried their lucks but it was fisted out by goalkeeper Frank Boateng.
    A 94th-minute strike from Diawisie Taylor handed Karela United the famous victory to process to the final of the competition.
