South Africa have advanced to the AFCON 2023 R16 after holding Tunisia to a 0-0 draw

South Africa secured a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations last 16 with a 0-0 draw against Tunisia.

Sphephelo Sithole had the best chance for Bafana Bafana, but his long-range shot was saved by Bechir Ben Said.

Despite late pressure from Tunisia, South Africa held firm to secure the draw and eliminate the 2004 champions.

With Namibia drawing 0-0 with group leaders Mali, South Africa claimed second place in Group E. They will face the Group F winners in the last 16 on Tuesday in San Pedro, with their opponents yet to be determined.

The match was tense, and both teams had few clear opportunities. Haythem Jouini missed a late chance for Tunisia, but South Africa managed to withstand the pressure and navigate five minutes of added time.

South Africa aims to build on this performance in the knockout stages. For Tunisia, it marks a disappointing end to their campaign as they fall short of advancing past the group stage for the second consecutive tournament.
