Restarting football would be irresponsible – FIFA boss Infantino

Fifa president Gianni Infantino says restarting football too early would be “irresponsible”,he was speaking to Fifa’s 211 member associations on Friday.

Most of the top leagues in and around Europe have been canceled whiles major tournaments such as Euro 2020, Copa America and Olympic games have also been postponed for a year.

“It would be more than irresponsible to force competitions to resume if things are not 100% safe,” said Infantino.

“If football manages to have a discussion where everyone contributes positively and keeps in mind the global interest over the individual one, I am convinced our future can be better than our past, and we will be better prepared for the times ahead.”

“No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life,” Infantino said.

“It’s better to wait a little bit longer than to take risks.”

Though football is still underway in some countries,Belarus, Burundi, Nicaragua and Tajikistan.

Infantino, stressed the need for people to be safety conscious in these troubling times to help reduce the growing numbers globally.

“Our first priority, our principle, the one we will use for our competitions and encourage everyone to follow, is that health comes first.

“Everyone in the world should have this very clear in their mind.”

In some countries, there’s endless debate whether to scrap the league and restart it the next season.

Globally, 1,684,640 cases confirmed, 102,059 deaths as well as 375,221 recovered people.
