Manchester City have completed the signing of Ghana international Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth, with the winger agreeing a five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
The 26-year-old moves in a deal worth around £64 million, made up of an initial £62.5m fee and a further £1.5m in potential add-ons, making it a club-record sale for Bournemouth. Semenyo will wear the No.42 shirt at City, a number previously associated with club legend Yaya Touré.
Semenyo had been the subject of intense transfer speculation in recent weeks, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all credited with interest. However, City won the race for his signature, adding another explosive option to an already formidable attack that includes Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush and Jeremy Doku.
The winger arrives in Manchester in outstanding form, having scored 10 goals in the 2025/26 Premier League season, placing him third in the Golden Boot race, behind only his new teammate Haaland, who has 20 goals. Semenyo is just one league goal away from matching his personal-best return of 11 goals set last season.
He could make his City debut on Saturday, January 10, when Pep Guardiola’s side host Exeter City in the FA Cup, before potential appearances against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg on January 13, and Manchester United in the Premier League on January 17.
Semenyo leaves Bournemouth after three seasons, having scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Tottenham Hotspur in his final appearance for the club. Overall, he registered 32 goals and 13 assists in 110 appearances in all competitions, including 30 goals and 10 assists in 101 Premier League games.
Born in London to Ghanaian parents, Semenyo began his professional journey at Bristol City, where he scored 21 goals and provided 21 assists in 125 appearances, alongside loan spells at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland. He played a key role in Newport County’s memorable 2019/20 FA Cup run, which included victories over Leicester City and Middlesbrough.
Bournemouth signed Semenyo from Bristol City for around £10m in January 2023, and he quickly developed into one of the Premier League’s most feared wide attackers. He signed a contract extension last summer that was due to run until 2030, but City’s move has now taken him to the very top level of the English game.
With his pace, power and eye for goal, Semenyo now steps into a new chapter of his career, aiming to make an immediate impact as Manchester City compete on multiple fronts.
