A brace from captain and top goalscorer Abduali Mukarama was enough to help the Maidens win the match against the New Zealand side who had won their other two matches prior to this game.

They Maidens finished the group stages with nine points from 3 games.

Ghana began the game the brighter side, dominating play in the first half but failed to find the cutting edge in the final third. They ended the first half goalless.

The second half was similar to the first with Ghana controlling proceedings. The much needed breakthrough came in the 61st minute when captain Mukarama found space after a miscued pass from New Zealand defender found her one on one with the keeper. She did what she has become known for much of the tournament thus far netting her fifth goal in three matches

Her second goal came in the 89th minute when she was found inside the 18 yard box by her teammate ….., she tussled found some space and released a thunderous shot which put the match well and truly beyond New Zealand and putting Ghana in pole position as group winners.

Ghana will face Mexico in the quarter finals after they finished second in their group.

The Black Maidens are currently the favourites for this tournament after an amazing display in the group stages.
