Liberty Professionals withdraws from Ghana’s Division one to shift focus to talent development

Liberty Professionals is currently undergoing a significant transformation by making the decision to withdraw from Ghana’s Division One, the second-tier league.

Instead, the club will prioritize its role as an academy dedicated to nurturing young talents with the intention of selling them in the future.

This strategic shift comes in response to changing trends in the football industry, as Liberty Professionals aims to adapt and stay relevant.

Over the past six months, the club has been undergoing substantial redevelopment under the guidance of a new academy director.

While the ownership of the club remains unchanged, Liberty Professionals has embraced a new business model that focuses on maximizing its reputation as a talent-producing institution. The primary goal is to carry on the club’s tradition of developing young players who can achieve success both domestically and internationally.

To lead this new direction, Liberty Professionals has enlisted the services of John Oppong Welbeck, a well-known figure in local development circles.

Welbeck’s expertise and experience in talent development will play a crucial role in shaping the club’s future. With his guidance, Liberty Professionals aims to further enhance its standing as a hub for nurturing and grooming talented footballers.

Established in 1996 by Felix Ansong and the late Alhaji Sly Tetteh, Liberty Professionals has gained recognition for its professional approach to football club management.

The club was one of the pioneers in Ghana to adopt such an approach, and their commitment to developing young players has yielded remarkable results over the years.

Liberty Professionals takes great pride in its track record of producing renowned Ghanaian football superstars, including Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, and many others.
