Kudus and Inaki Williams absent at Black Stars first training session ahead of AFCON

The Black Stars convened on Tuesday for their first training session in anticipation of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with 24 of the 27 selected players actively participating.

This kickstarts a nine-day training period in Kumasi before the team transitions to Ivory Coast for the AFCON, set to commence on January 13, 2024.

Although the initial plan was to train at the Baba Yara Stadium, the technical team, under Chris Hughton’s guidance, relocated the first day’s session to the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex due to concerns about the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch conditions post-inspection.

Among the 24 attendees were players like Joseph Wollacott, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Alidu Seidu, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Fatawu Hamid, Nicholas Opoku, and Daniel Amartey.

The roster also featured other players such as Salisu Mohammed, Alexander Djiku, Baba Iddrisu, Elisha Owusu, Abdul Samed Salis, Richmond Lamptey, Majeed Ashimeru, Andre Ayew, Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer, Osman Bukari, Joseph Painstil, Ernest Nuamah, Antoine Semenyo, and Jonathan Sowah.

However, Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, Jordan Ayew, and Inaki Williams, who, as per reports from Athletic Bilbao, is unwell, are yet to join the training camp.

Ghana has an upcoming friendly match against Namibia slated for Monday, January 8, 2024.
