Jonina Ladies’ long-standing defensive dominance in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League Southern Zone was finally breached on Saturday, December 27, 2025, but their unbeaten run remained intact as they recorded a dramatic 2–1 victory over FC Samartex Ladies on Matchday Seven at the Auntie Aku AstroTurf.
The league leaders had not conceded a single goal in the competition this season until Abigail Akwetey equalised for Samartex in the 68th minute, ending Jonina’s league clean-sheet run.

The goal came just a week after Cabfix Ladies had scored against Jonina in the Women’s FA Cup Round of 32, ending their perfect defensive record across all competitions.
Jonina had taken the lead in the 39th minute through captain Agnes Yeboah, whose strike took her tally to five league goals this season. The skipper was once again influential, earning the NASCO Most Valuable Player award for a second consecutive matchday, having also claimed the honour on Matchday Six.

As the rain poured down late in the contest at the Auntie Aku AstroTurf, Jonina Ladies pressed on in search of a winner. Their determination was rewarded in stoppage time when Rebecca Assemani rose above the defence to power home the decisive header in the 90+3rd minute, sealing a dramatic victory and sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
Goalkeeper Osman Huzeimah, who had been key to Jonina’s defensive solidity earlier in the season, was beaten for the first time in the league campaign but remained instrumental as her side pushed forward to secure all three points.
