The quarterfinal stage of the Ghana Women’s FA Cup delivered thrilling action over the weekend, with all four semifinal slots secured by clubs from the Southern Zone, underlining their strong presence in the competition this season.
At the Tolon Astro Turf, Army Ladies produced an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tamale Super Ladies to book their place in the last four. The result marked a commanding performance from the Southern side against their Northern counterparts.
In Sekondi, Hasaacas Ladies edged past Ampem Darkoa Ladies with a 2-1 win at Kobby’s Astro Turf. Ampem Darkoa had entered the quarterfinals as the tournament’s top-scoring side with 21 goals and an impressive record of three clean sheets. However, their perfect defensive run came to an end against a determined Hasaacas side that rose to the occasion.
Another closely contested encounter saw Samartex Ladies draw 1-1 with FC Savannah before progressing 4-3 on penalties at Nsengkyire Arena.
At the Bantama Astro Turf, last season’s finalists Jonina Ladies secured a 2-2 draw against Supreme Ladies before winning 5-4 on penalties to book their semifinal spot. Jonina Ladies have now beaten lower-tier opposition in every round of the competition, demonstrating their consistency and determination on the road to the last four.
Supreme Ladies were the only Division One club from the Northern Zone to reach the quarterfinals, making their journey a remarkable one despite the defeat.
With Army Ladies, Hasaacas Ladies, Samartex Ladies, and Jonina Ladies all advancing, the semifinal lineup is exclusively made up of Southern Zone clubs. The outcome underscores the growing strength and competitiveness of women’s football in the Southern Zone as clubs continue to invest in development and performance.
Attention now turns to the semifinals, where the four Southern giants will battle fiercely for a place in the final of this year’s Women’s FA Cup.
