Ghana Black Princesses qualify for seventh FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

The Black Princesses of Ghana have successfully earned their place in the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia later this year.

Under the guidance of Coach Yussif Basigi, the team secured qualification by defeating Senegal in both legs of the qualification round.

In the first leg in Dakar, the Black Princesses claimed a 2-0 victory, establishing a strong position for the return fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Despite Senegal’s early goal in the opening minute of the Sunday match, Ghana responded with determination. Maafia Nyame equalized in the 18th minute, signaling a shift in momentum.

Beline Nyarko furthered Ghana’s lead in the 23rd minute, providing a commanding advantage before halftime. The Black Princesses maintained their impressive performance in the second half, securing additional goals from Tracey Twum (via penalty), Salamatu Abdulai, and Beline Nyarko.

This triumph marks Ghana’s seventh qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, solidifying their reputation as a formidable force in youth women’s football.

Ghana will join Nigeria, Morocco, and Cameroon as Africa’s representatives for the tournament. The scheduled dates for the upcoming tournament are from August 31 to September 22, 2024.
