George Afriyie disqualified from Ghana FA presidential elections.

George Afriyie, the former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has been ruled out of the upcoming GFA presidential election, as stated by the Vetting Committee.

The election, originally set for September 27 in Tamale, might face further postponement due to ongoing legal proceedings.

The Vetting Committee pointed out that Afriyie’s application was rejected due to his violation of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” as well as his “inability to secure the necessary support from Ghana Football Association members for his candidacy.”

The announcement also provided detailed justifications for Afriyie’s disqualification, specifying that he has a three-day period to challenge this verdict.

In the 2019 presidential election, Afriyie had previously contested but was defeated by the incumbent, Kurt Okraku. This time around, Okraku’s candidacy successfully cleared the vetting process, whereas Afriyie’s did not.

Afriyie’s exclusion from the GFA presidential race introduces more suspense to the forthcoming elections, as Okraku is anticipated to run unopposed and receive strong support from the delegates.
