Ghana’s Felix Afena-Gyan has declined a call up to  join the Ghana U23 team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

The 20-year-old US Cremonese forward received a call up to the  Black Meteors squad to face Algeria  for a place in this year’s U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Reports indicate that, the  youngster has decided to decline the call up even after US Cremonese accepted to let him honour the invitation.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko has invited 26 players for the upcoming qualifiers with 8 foreign based players in the set up.

Afena-Gyan played an instrumental role in the World Cup playoff that saw Ghana urge past Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the final list for the World Cup as coach  Otto Addo had different plans.

His absence at the U23 camp will be a big miss as coach Tanko and the rest of the technical team were hoping to beef up their squad to help them qualify to the next Olympic games.
