Black Stars Defender Alexander Djiku has been on high demand by Spanish side Sevilla after an impressive season in the French Ligue 1 with Strasbourg.

According to reports in Spain, Sevilla has listed the top defender to replace their outgoing centre-back Diego Carlos this summer who’s close to joining England’s Premiership side Aston Villa after reaching  an agreement on personal terms.

Another Spanish side Villarreal also expressed  interest in the player but Sevilla has emerged as the frontliner candidate to sign up the 27-year-old whose contract with the French Ligue 1 side, Strasbourg expires in the summer of 2023.

Djiku played 31 matches in the 2021-22 French Ligue 1 for Strasbourg and scored a goal in their win over AS Monaco.

His goal was subsequently awarded as the Goal-Of-The-Month in the month of March – with his impressive and incredible overhead kick.

He formed a formidable partnership with Daniel Amartey at the centre for Black Stars in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon and played a pivotal role in Ghana’s qualification over the Super Eagles of Nigeria to book a place in the next FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar this November.

He has been excluded from coach Otto Dado’s team face Madagascar at the Cape Coast Stadium on June 1 before flying to play the Central African Republic on June 5.
