Ghana coach, Chris Hughton admits, the team’s  first ambition is to go past the first round at the AFCON

The Black Stars find themselves in Group B, alongside powerhouse Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, aiming to overcome the disappointment of their premature departure from the previous tournament.

Addressing Ghana’s unexpected exit from the 2021 AFCON due to a surprising defeat against Comoros, Hughton acknowledged the fans’ dismay but stressed the team’s proactive mindset.

“I am aware of the disappointment of the last Cup of Nations tournament for Ghana, who were eliminated after the first round following a shock loss to the Comoros,” he told AFP.

“However, we are looking forward, not back, and our first ambition in the Ivory Coast is to get past the first round,”

The Black Stars’ Group B campaign kicks off against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024.
