Chris Hughton expresses disappointment and issues  apology to Ghanaians following the defeat of the Black Stars by Cape Verde

Chris Hughton expressed his dismay and offered an apology to Ghanaians after the Black Stars were defeated by Cape Verde on Sunday.

This defeat marked the third consecutive Africa Cup of Nations where the Black Stars failed to secure an opening victory, putting them in a challenging position.

The late goal conceded in the match has left Ghana in need of a win in their upcoming game against Egypt to revive their campaign.

The setback occurred when they allowed a goal after 17 minutes, as Jamiro Monteiro tapped in a rebound easily after Richard Ofori parried a long shot.

Despite a disallowed long shot from Majeed Ashimeru just before halftime, the Black Stars managed to secure a deserved equalizer in the second half through an Alexander Djiku header from a corner kick.

However, comical defending led to Cape Verde scoring a late winner through Garry Rodrigues.

Expressing his disappointment, Hughton stated, “We are incredibly disappointed with the result. We came into the game with a plan to start on the front foot.”

Now, with a crucial match against Egypt on Thursday, the Black Stars are at risk of facing an early exit, reminiscent of the previous edition of the tournament.
