Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has revealed that Irish-born trainer Chris Hughton did not submit an application for the Black Stars head coach job.

Hughton, who has now be named technical advisor to the Black Stars bench ahead of the Nigeria game has been in the country for about two weeks now.

Reports earlier indicated he was taking over as the coach of the Black Stars following the sacking of Milovan Rajevac.

However, the former Brighton manager will be playing a different role at the technical department of the Ghana Football Association.

“Chris Hughton didn’t apply for the Black Stars Head Coaching job,” he told Sikka FM. “The Ghana Football Association made it clear to Chris Hughton the kind of role he will play in the Black Stars team,” he added.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo has been appointed coach of the Black Stars for the Nigeria games in March.

Henry Asante Twum explained the reason for his absence for the Africa Cup of Nations, despite being the assistant coach of the team.

“Dortmund was not ready to release Otto Addo for the Afcon since it was not time for the international break,” he said
