Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew misses out on squad for Mexico and USA friendlies

Captain Andre Ayew will be absent from the upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and the USA, as he was not included in Coach Chris Hughton’s 23-man squad.

This omission is linked to Ayew’s current club situation, as he is currently without a club. Sources suggest that this break from national team duties will afford him the opportunity to address these club-related matters.

In Ayew’s absence, Deputy Captain Thomas Partey will assume the role of captain. Partey, who missed last month’s 2023 AFCON qualifier due to injury, will lead the Black Stars in the matches against Mexico and the USA.

The national team is preparing for a highly-anticipated match against Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Saturday, October 14, followed by a face-off against the United States in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

These friendly matches are pivotal in Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
