Ghana’s U-15 girls’ national team, popularly known as the Black Damsels, have begun preparations to defend their title at the upcoming CAF African Schools Football Championship. The young Ghanaian side will travel to Maputo, Mozambique, where the 2026 edition of the competition will be held from April 2 to April 10.
The tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football, has grown significantly in recent years, becoming one of the continent’s most important platforms for grassroots football. It provides young talents with the opportunity to compete at a high level while promoting education and development through sport across Africa.
Ghana enters the competition as defending champions following a historic and impressive campaign in 2025. The Black Damsels announced themselves on the continental stage by defeating Uganda 2-0 in the final at the University of Ghana Stadium, securing the title in their debut appearance. Goals from Belinda Kpentey and Daniella Abass sealed the victory and underlined the team’s attacking strength and composure under pressure.
Their triumph was complemented by individual brilliance. Jennifer Awuku earned the Best Player award, while Precious Akanguwie was adjudged Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, highlighting the team’s overall quality and balance.
The squad was put together through collaboration between the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Education Service, reflecting a structured approach to youth and schools football development in Ghana.
As preparations intensify for the Maputo showdown, the Black Damsels will be aiming to replicate their previous success. With confidence high and expectations even higher, Ghana’s young talents will be determined to prove that their first triumph was no fluke and that they remain a force to reckon with in African schools football.
