Asante Kotoko have rejected Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT)’s plea to set a new date for their impending CAF Confederation Cup against one of its club.

FECAFOOT’s General Scretary Benjamin Balo and few delegates traveled to Kumasi to plead with the management of Kotoko to shift the date of the game against one of its club.

Asante Kotoko released a statement on Wednesday revealing the outcome of the meeting and also stated why they rejected FECAFOOT’s proposal.

    Full Statement:

Management has declined the Cameroonian Football Federation’s request to postpone the date for the first leg of the first preliminary round fixture of the Confederation Cup from November 28, 2018.

Management, in a letter signed by Chief Executive Officer, George Amoako, and addressed to the Secretary-General of the FECAFOOT,  Benjamin Didier Banlock, revealed that it cannot accept the proposal due to its own external commitments.

Didier Banlock and Disaaice M. Michel, a representative of the Cameroonian government, met with Dr. Kwame Kyei on Tuesday to plead with the Executive Chairman to reschedule the game.

The duo explained that their country would not be able to present a team for the game by the said date.

CAF released the 2018/19 Confederation Cup draw, two weeks ago, and handed Asante Kotoko a first home tie against an undisclosed Cameroonian club.

Banlock and Michel said that two clubs would have to play the final of an annual cup match after which the winner would be presented to CAF as the country’s representative in the Confederation Cup.

The match, according to the duo, will not come off until December this year since the country has elected a new president who has to go through state protocol to organise the game and also grace the occasion himself.

The Cameroonian authorities had failed to convince CAF and were in Kumasi to seek management’s acceptance so both parties could jointly petition the continent’s football governing body for a postponement.

Management has declined the proposal, citing factors beyond its control.

“Following the discussions held between the delegation from Cameroon and the Executive Chairman of our club in Kumasi this morning, we write to notify your federation of our inability to accept your proposal due to the various commitments at hand,” read the letter.
