Asante Kotoko PRO insists club not considering pay cuts amid coronavirus crisis

Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Kennedy Boakye-Ansah says his outfit are not in favour of pay cuts amid the coronavirus crisis.

Football activity in the country has been suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

With no matchday gate proceeds or merchandise sales due to the citywide lockdowns and the uncertainty of when the league will resume, revenue for local clubs have pummeled.

Players of European heavyweights such as Juventus and Barcelona have led the way by cutting down their wages.

There is a divergent opinion from football connoisseurs on Ghanaian clubs taking the same steps in cutting their players pay to help clubs during the coronavirus outbreak.

However, Asante Kotoko scribe believes it’s not necessary to follow the lead of foreign clubs by slashing down their players pay.

“I have always had the conviction that European solutions can’t solve African problems, apart from Kotoko and Hearts who pay their players considerably well, how much do other clubs pay, they pay peanuts and we talking about pay cuts,” Boakye-Ansah told Oyerepa FM.

    “We haven’t considered pay cut.”

Meanwhile, the Porcupine Warriors just paid their players outstanding two months salary plus winning bonuses for five of their matches in the Ghana Premier League.
