Argentina defeat France on penalties to win World Cup

In probably the wildest final ever in the 92-year history of the World Cup, Argentina urged over France to clinch their first World Cup in 36 years.

France lost  4-2 in the penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw featuring in 120 minutes.

Messi scored a brace with his PSG teammate and France forward Kylian Mbappé scoring a hat-trick.

Mbappé and Messi took their teams’ first penalties and scored. Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez saved Kingsley Coman’s penalty kick.

Aurelien Tchouameni then missed again for France giving Argentina a two goal lead.

Gonzalo Montiel had the opportunity to win it for Argentina . He converted the penalty to the left side of goal and sparked wild celebrations.

Europe’s run of four straight World Cup winners, dating to 2006, came to an end in the just ended Qatar World Cup.

The last South American champion was Brazil, and that was also in Asia — when Japan and South Korea hosted the tournament in 2002.
