Antoine Semenyo misses Ghana’s friendly with Namibia as a result of illness

Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, disclosed that striker Antoine Semenyo was absent from Monday’s friendly against Namibia due to illness. Semenyo, who has scored three goals in the Premier League this season, did not feature in the matchday squad for the game, resulting in a disappointing 0-0 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

After the match, Hughton confirmed Semenyo’s illness but expressed optimism that he would recover before the team’s departure for Ivory Coast on Wednesday for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Semenyo’s non-appearance had an impact on the game, with Ghana struggling to create clear-cut opportunities against a resilient Namibian side.

Despite the setback, Hughton remains confident in his team’s ability to bounce back and perform well in the AFCON tournament.

He emphasized the importance of teamwork, unity, and urged his players to stay focused and determined.

Ghana faces challenging matches against Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in the group stages.

With a healthy Semenyo back in the lineup, the Black Stars aim to make a strong statement and establish themselves as strong contenders in the tournament
