Abdul Aziz Yakubu’s brace secures Rio Ave a draw against Sporting CP

Ghanaian striker Abdul Aziz Yakubu scored twice to help Rio Ave secure a 3-3 draw against Sporting CP on Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who recently returned to Rio Ave after playing for Wuhan Three Towns in the Chinese Super League, continued his impressive form by scoring his fourth goal in three games for his team.

The match, which took place at the Estadio do Rio Ave, saw Umaro Embalo open the scoring for Rio Ave with a fantastic strike in the third minute.

However, Sporting CP responded quickly, with Morten Hjulmand equalizing in the ninth minute, followed by Viktor Gyokeres giving them the lead.

Yakubu then leveled the score for Rio Ave with a penalty kick in first-half injury time before scoring his second goal from the penalty spot in the 67th minute to put Rio Ave back in the lead.

Sporting CP managed to equalize again, with Sebastian Coates scoring in the 73rd minute to secure a point for his team.

Yakubu’s outstanding performance adds to his tally of four goals in seven matches for Rio Ave since his return to the club in January.
