WATCH: Ashgold Thrash Akonangui FC To Progress In CAF Confed Cup

Ashgold cut ties with Shafiu Mumuni

A hattrick from Shafui in the first half was enough to see Ashgold through to the next stage of qualifiers in the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Miners had gone into this game with a first leg 1-1 draw in Equatorial Guinea and needed a positive result here to ensure qualification.

An early penalty in the first half got things rolling after a handball from an Akonangui defender following a cross into the box. Shafiu stepped up to score the first of his hattrick.

The second goal came moments later in the sixth minute when confusion in the defense of Akonangui put the ball into the path of Shafui who had all the time to round the goalkeeper and score his and Ashantigold’s second of the game setting them on the way to an unassailable lead.

At this point, Ashgold were dominating play and in total control of proceedings. The final nail in the coffin for the Equatorial Guinea based side came in the ninth minute after a cross on the right-hand side of the Ashgold attack found Shafiu once again this time a backheeled finish from the striker who was having a field day.
