Ghana’s Black Queens made a commanding statement in their Group D opener at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, racing to a 2-0 lead over debutants Cape Verde.
Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a clinical finish, latching onto a perfectly weighted assist from Portia Boakye. The early goal set the tone for a confident Ghanaian performance, as the Black Queens controlled proceedings against a Cape Verde side making their tournament debut.
The second goal came shortly after the break in the 54th minute. Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah delivered a dangerous cross that forced Eleia Katy Pereira Vieira into an unfortunate own goal, extending Ghana’s advantage to 2-0.
Kleydiana Borges was given her marching orders after VAR intervened on her stepping on the heels of Abena Opoku.
The Black Queens of Ghana will play Cameroon on Sunday, August 2, 2026
