Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has opened the door for a summer switch to Real Madrid after confirming he would “like to try something new”.

The 27-year-old has established himself as a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side in north London and played an integral role in the club’s push to the Champions League final, where they lost 2-0 to Liverpool.

A promising campaign in Europe’s biggest competition has presented Spurs with a solid platform to build upon over the course of the coming years but the biggest challenge is now to keep the squad intact.

However, that seems to be unlikely as Eriksen has hinted at an exit.

“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham, nor will it be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new,” he told Ekstrabladet .

“I hope there will be clarification during the summer. That’s the plan. In football, you do not know when a clarification comes. It can happen anytime. Everyone wants it best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football takes things time.

“It depends on Daniel Levy and another club has to come. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can’t set a date yourself.

Real Madrid opened the scoring through Casemiro who scored on the 16th minute with a brilliant bicycle-kick effort to put his team in front.

Atletico grabbed an equalizer through Antoine Griezmann who made a brilliant run to escape the Real Madrid defensive line to level the scoreline.

Sergio Ramos put his team in front just a few minutes before the half time with a great penalty kick.

Gareth Bale scored Madrid’s third to give his side a comfortable lead.

Thomas Partey was sent off after a late challenge on Toni Kroos, the midfielder received his yellow card and went straight to the dressing room.

The Ghanaian midfielder will be hoping to feature in the game considering his form in the past few games.

African players are not valued in Europe – Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey has featured for Atletico Madrid 19 times this season, he has also scored two goals.

Eden Hazard is reportedly valued £150m by his English team but Essien does not think the price tag will keep Real Madrid away from securing the services of the Belgian star.

Thomas Partey clarifies comments about being ‘unhappy’ at Atletico Madrid

The former Ghana international told the Daily Express: ”Hazard is one of the best players in the world.

”He’s been playing in the Premier League very well and looks fantastic at the moment.

”The interest of Real Madrid, I only hear from people in the media.

”But I mean when Real Madrid come calling… every player would love to play for them.

”He’s happy at Chelsea though and hopefully we can keep him.”
