The chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace revealed the Otumfuo’s decision during the inauguration of the new Kotoko board members.

Manhyia Palace has secured a US$ 30 million fund to build a stadium and other infrastructure for Kumasi Asante Kotoko according to a new report circulating in the Kumasi media.

Kwame Aboagye Mensah, Personal Assistant to the Chief of Staff, in a recent interview with  Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM disclosed Manhyia’s preparedness to increase the current infrastructural base of the multiple Ghanaian Premier League winners.

”Manhyia has plans to see infrastructural development at Asante Kotoko not only stadium but all-round facelift infrastructure wise,” Mensah said.

According to Aboagye Mensah, one of the top priorities of the Club owner and Life Patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is to complement the current infrastructure of the club.

He believes in doing that, it will give the former African club winners an opportunity to rub shoulders with the very best on the continent.

As well as, reduce the heavy financial drain in renting other infrastructure that the club uses in quest to properly challenge for competitions that they engage in on a regular occasion.

According to the plan, the club’s Adako Jachie training complex will be upgraded into an ultra-modern stadium with redesigned pitches.

The facility will include a VIP stand, media stand, electronic scoreboard, and gym Center.

If the project is completed, Kotoko will move from the Baba Yara Stadium which has been its fortress for over so many decades.

Hopefully, this plan will be fruitful as its been long overdue for the club to boast of their own stadium together with other infrastructure in recent times.

Former President of Ghana and ex-Chairman of Asante Kotoko, John Agyekum Kufuor has urged Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to appoint leaders who understand the game for the club.

The current leadership of Kotoko have been under increasing pressure from fans and former management members of the club due to a recent spate of payments and underperformance from the team.

Ex-President, J.A Kufuor who was speaking to Manhyia on the occasion of the King’s 70th birthday implored Otumfuor to appoint ‘truthful’ leaders.

“The struggle for leadership at Kotoko is real due to how lucrative the club looks, so I will plead with Otumfou to appoint people who understand the game and will lead the club with the truth. The leaders should also be protected due to the fact that there are other people who will attempt to bring them down through gossips,” he told Opemsuor Radio.

The former President also advocated for good wages for footballers and advised Kotoko players to give their all for the club.

“I know injuries are part of the game, reason why I would urge the managers to see to the welfare of the players, they must be paid well and have good insurance policies to cover them because their lives could be ruined through injuries. Elsewhere footballers are paid better than Doctors, Lawyers and other professionals but what do we see here in Ghana, players being paid less than a Ghc 1000, what happens if they get injured and can’t play anymore?,” he said.

“And to the footballers, I’m clamoring for your well being but you must also serve the club (Asante Kotoko) with your hearts. The moment you are given the privilege to wear the Kotoko jersey, remember you’re serving one of the biggest clubs in Africa and that, you must serve with all your heart.”
