Management of Asante Kotoko denies Ticket Declaration Claims https://www.saharafootball.net/management-asante-kotoko-denies-ticket-declaration-claims/ https://www.saharafootball.net/management-asante-kotoko-denies-ticket-declaration-claims/#comments Thu, 27 Dec 2018 12:43:20 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=17120 Management of Kotoko has denied allegations that it under-declared the gate proceeds accrued at the Baba Yara Stadium last Saturday when Asante Kotoko hosted Kariobangi Sharks.

A statement signed by the Director of Communications, Samuel Sarfo Duku (Esq), on Thursday says the allegations are unfounded and so must be disregarded.

The Porcupine Warriors beat the Kenyan club 2-1 in a CAF Confederation Cup second round tie, and allegations emerged on some social media platforms, afterwards, that management did not disclose the exact sum of money realised from ticket sales.

“The management of Asante Kotoko SC has noted, with utmost concern, allegations being made from certain media platforms that gate proceeds accrued from last Saturday’s Asante Kotoko-Kariobangi Sharks’ CAF Confederation Cup 1/16th 2nd leg clash was under-declared,” the statement said.

“Management emphatically states that these allegations are unfounded and must be treated with the contempt they deserve.”

The club explains that the tickets were handled in accordance with laid down CAF regulations though acknowledging that it did not have absolute control over the manning of the entrances since the stadium is controlled by its managers, the National Sports Authority.

“Management wishes to remind the football fraternity that Baba Yara Sports Stadium is a public property managed by the National Sports Authority and therefore Asante Kotoko do not have absolute control over it even when it is rented out to the club.”

“It should be noted that gate proceeds from the said match were handled and distributed according to laid down statutory and Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations.”

WATCH: Kotoko hold Kariobangi to a goalless draw

The statement says information regarding tickets sales, the corresponding accrued revenue, and distribution of same have been put at the NSA for anyone who doubts the club’s claims to verify.

“Notice is hereby served that all relevant information on how the gate proceeds were realised and distributed are available at the office of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for all well-meaning Ghanaians to verify, ” it continued.

It continues that management is ready to engage anyone with evidence of any wrongdoing by any member of the team.

“Management gladly welcomes any person or a group of persons with evidence of any fraudulent activity on the part of any management member in connection with the said match.
Management further welcomes any information which seeks to dispute the figures (the function statement) so far brought out by the stakeholders.”

While management welcomes criticisms, it also prays that people desist from peddling lies about the club, and asks that the supporters ignore such persons and their claims.

“While management accepts constructive criticisms which have the tendency to enhance the fortunes of the club in good faith, it appeals to the general football loving fans to desist from peddling falsehood and relying on mere speculations and conjectures which are all likely to dwindle the prospects of the club and to bring its hard-won reputation into disrepute.”

“Management, in the light of the above, brings to the notice of its cherished supporters to disregard such unsubstantiated allegations and all other perennial distractive elements and maintain their firm and absolute support for the club to be able to excel in the ongoing competition,” it concludes.

C.K Akonnor wants Kotoko to improve in midfield https://www.saharafootball.net/c-k-akonnor-wants-kotoko-improve-midfield/ https://www.saharafootball.net/c-k-akonnor-wants-kotoko-improve-midfield/#comments Mon, 24 Dec 2018 07:05:51 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=17063 Asante Kotoko need to improve on their performance in midfield and become more compact to increase their chances of going far in the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup competition, coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has disclosed.

The Porcupines Warriors saw off Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks in the second round of the competition with a 2-1 aggregate win, courtesy a barren draw in the first leg match played in Nairobi, last week, and a 2-1 triumph at the Baba Yara Stadium on Saturday.

Abdul Fatawu and Amos Frimpong scored at both ends of Patila Omoto’s strike on an afternoon where the visitors enjoyed a fair bit of possession and made dangerous forays into the hosts’ penalty area in the closing stages of the game.

BREAKING: Ghana football to return in January 2019

Akonnor was happy with the win, but admitted the midfield needed to improve before the third round tie though he has the personnel to engineer that course.

“We were not too exciting today, I must admit,” Akonnor said. “The opponent really did well. We struggled a bit and were not compact enough in the midfield.”

“Umar Basiru gave us the stability we needed when he came in. We were leading at that time and so the idea was to contain the pressure and if the opportunity comes for us to score, we score.”

“It’s a problem that we need to work on. If we are able to strengthen the team from within and improve the way we play from the middle, I think it will solve a lot of problems for us.”

“Thank God we have somebody like Umar. Anytime he comes in, he is able to stabilize things for us and I think we need that stability. Whether he will start or not, there is a competition. There is also Kwame Bonsu, who is working so hard to be in the team. We look forward to seeing everybody progress.”

“Although they didn’t have the best of games, what really mattered was the qualification especially since this was their first competitive game at home in almost six months. I believe they have done well and should continue.”

He added “I would like to see them in the group stage for the first time in many years because they have the potential to do so. It is left with only one opponent and two games to achieve that so they need to work hard to make the fans happy just like they did against Sharks.”

Kotoko defender Augustine Sefah comments on towel theft allegations https://www.saharafootball.net/kotoko-defender-augustine-sefah-comments-towel-theft-allegations/ https://www.saharafootball.net/kotoko-defender-augustine-sefah-comments-towel-theft-allegations/#comments Tue, 18 Dec 2018 09:29:11 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=16903 Augustine Sefah has clarified issues of towel theft reports involving the club in a hotel in Kenya.

Asante Kotoko were accused of stealing face towels in the they lodged in Kenya. Kotoko stayed in the hotel for few days before returning back to Ghana. Upon their arrival, there were reports claiming that the players “stole’ the face towels in their hotel rooms.

Augustine Sefah had denied that any of the players took the towels home. He explained that they used it but didn’t take any home.

“What we took were face towels but we didn’t bring them to Ghana. What happened was that some of the players took them (face towels) to the dressing room at the stadium where the match was played so that they use it after showering following the end of the game. Some of the players even left the towels at the dressing room. Some too left them in the bus that transported us to the stadium” Sefah explained on Alpha Radio.

Asante Kotoko coach CK Akonnor says he is satisfied with draw against Kariobangi

“I myself saw the face towel that Frederick Boateng left in the dressing room after using it. If there is anything we wanted to take to Ghana it would have been the big bath towels. They are very white and large. That is what we would have taken to Ghana if we wanted but we did not.” the full-back added.

“Felix (Annan) also took one of the bath towels to the stadium and that was what he used during the game against the Kenyans but we went back to the hotel with it.” Sefah revealed.

Meanwhile, assistant manager of the City Lodge hotel in Nairobi Allan Kimani spoke to Vision 1 FM to offer clarity on the matter.

“It is true that certain items are missing from the hotel rooms but we cannot attribute that to Asante Kotoko as we have had many visitors within the same week. We cannot say that. ” Allan Kimani said.
