Who would have thought that on the back of losing four matches on a trot, Liberty Professionals would pick up all three maximum points away to Ashgold at the Obuasi Ley Clay Stadium, well that was their success story in week thirteen of the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

This weekend, they have all opportunity available at their disposal to deepen the woes of struggling opposition, Inter Allies when the pair clashed at Carl Reindhorf Park on Sunday.

Inter Allies have struggled and struggled badly in the ongoing league, their Technical Director, Willie Klutse opined that, the reasons for their failure to do well in the league is attributed to the fact that most of their current crop of players were promoted from the youth setup to the first team.

One thing, I can attribute to the club’s poor performance was the departures of Victorien Adebayor, Samuel Armah(back at the club), Henrikh Lehm, Tonny Lokko as well as other departures that hugely impacted the chances of the club.

Both sides have played twelve (12) times the away side the dominant of the two, winning six (6) games, home winning five (5), and the other ending in a stalemate.

Prediction: Liberty Professionals 2-0 Inter Allies

Breaking News: Ghana FA EXCO unanimously vote to CANCEL season https://www.saharafootball.net/breaking-news-ghana-fa-exco-unanimously-vote-cancel-season/ https://www.saharafootball.net/breaking-news-ghana-fa-exco-unanimously-vote-cancel-season/#comments Wed, 17 Jun 2020 11:06:34 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=26132 Breaking News: Ghana FA EXCO unanimously vote to CANCEL season

Ghana FA’s Executive Council have unanimously voted to CANCEL the 2019-20 season, according to GHANAsoccernet.com

The decision was taken at a meeting via a video conference on Tuesday following a marathon deliberation on the future of the current campaign.

The Executive Council by a majority decision has decided to abandon its season due to the coronavirus outbreak which has wreaked havoc to the game in the West African nation.

The Ghana FA has set June 30 to make public its final decision on the 2019-20 season but GHANAsoccernet.com understands the season is completely over barring any last-minute autocracy.

The Executive Council is clothed with powers to decide on all matters that hinge on “unforeseen contingencies and force majeure”.

Article 78 of the 2019 GFA Statutes amended at Congress on December 19 clearly stipulate that “The Executive Council shall have the power to decide on all cases of force majeure and on all matters not provided for in these Statutes, such decisions to be made according to right and justice, taking into account the relevant regulations of FIFA and CAF.”

With no end in sight to when restrictions will be eased for football to return coupled with its financial implication on clubs amid the Covid-19 precautions, the Executive Council has decided to prematurely end the season, sources have told GHANAsoccernet.com.

The season has been thrown into turmoil since football was suspended back in March this year amid uncertain signals from the government – which is reportedly unwilling to risk players and officials back onto the pitch.

Ghana lifted a partial lock-down in April but has been reluctant to allow football to return despite easing restrictions for non-contacts sport.

Some Premier and Division One League teams were hoping for a return of the game shortly after the easing of restrictions, targeting a mid-August resumption of their seasons.

But that may remain a pipe dream with the Executive Council which has been under enormous pressure finally CANCELLING  the season.

A majority of clubs in the bottom half of the Premier and Division One Leagues want the season scrapped amid the coronavirus shutdown while a chunk of administrators are pushing for the current campaign to be axed.

While TV right holders StarTimesand FA Cup sponsors MTN are threatening to withdraw their sponsorship if the season is annulled, clubs will simply not budge.

The Ghana FA has been adamant to heed to several calls from many principal stakeholders, insisting the resumption will “take place if the government give a seal of approval and in full compliance with the rules for the protection of health and safety of stakeholders.”

But it appears they have backtracked after unanimously voting to abrogate the season, GHANAsoccernet.com has been told.

The next two weeks will be crucial for Ghanaian football with the Executive Council expected to announce the direction of the season.

Govt. implores GFA to make presentation on how to make the GPL safe again https://www.saharafootball.net/govt-implore-gfa-make-presentation-make-gpl-safe/ https://www.saharafootball.net/govt-implore-gfa-make-presentation-make-gpl-safe/#comments Sun, 17 May 2020 09:45:02 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=25949 Govt. implores GFA to make presentation on how to make the GPL safe again

The impact of the novel Coronavirus cannot be underestimated, lives have been lost as a result, major economies have granded to a halt, whiles football like many other disciplines have been severely affected.

The Ghana Football Association have held a series of virtual meetings with the government in ambition to restart the league but the country’s Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has implored the association to implement a comprehensive plan of how they think it will be safe to resume football activities and present it to the government for further deliberations.

In a recent interview with Accra based Atinka FM, he said lives were important in the current dispensation and asked the association not to be angry.

“Don’t be angry, we are talking about people’s safety here, protecting lives is at stake, so there should be no reason to be angry.”

“The football people should take their time and make a good representation of how they can play football again whiles they can still protect people, don’t be angry.” He added.

One of the country’s Associations being the Golf Association have sort to negotiate with the government with the sole purpose of getting it to lift the ban.

“When you do that government will have a discussion on it. For instance, the Golf Association has brought their presentation urging the government to open the various golf parks for them and even gave measures they have put in place to allow them to play their game amid COVID-19.”

“So this is not the time for GFA to be angry but rather should follow the same step,”

It remains to be seen if the GFA will follow in the footsteps of Germany in restarting the league or cancel it as some African countries have done, Kenya, Guinea, Congo, Zambia, Ethiopia, Mali, and others.
