Asante Kotoko settle $240,000 Esperance debt https://www.saharafootball.net/asante-kotoko-settle-240000-esperance-debt/ https://www.saharafootball.net/asante-kotoko-settle-240000-esperance-debt/#respond Wed, 29 Apr 2020 08:24:02 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=25752 Asante Kotoko settle $240,000 Esperance debt

Asante Kotoko have finally settled their $240,000 fine imposed by FIFA over the wrongful registration of striker, Emmanuel Clottey in 2015 have been settled, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Here is the official statement from the club:

The debt owed Tunisian club, Esperance, and FIFA over the wrongful registration of striker, Emmanuel Clottey in 2015 have been settled.

Executive Chairman, Kwame Kyei paid the Tunisians to clear the fine imposed on us by the world football governing body, FIFA.

A $240,000 fine was slapped on the club by FIFA, comprising $180,000 for the player’s transfer, $45,000 representing accrued interest, and $15,000 for the failure to respect a FIFA decision.

Thus $30,000 was paid to the Tunisian side after reaching an agreement with them to write off the $45,000 accrued interest on the total figure.

FIFA gave us up to May 17, 2020, to settle the debt or face a transfer ban on the national and international fronts.

Club Spokesperson, Kennedy Boakye-Ansah tells Kotoko Express App that both clubs have written to FIFA to officially inform it of the settlement.

“Dr Kwame Kyei has paid the amounts due Esperance and FIFA in the Emmanuel Clottey issue,” he confirmed.

“Thirty thousand ($30,000) US Dollars go to Esperance as an addition to the $150,000 owed Kotoko for the transfer of Kwame Bonsu.

“The Executive Chairman also paid $15, 000 to FIFA. We are grateful to Dr. Kyei and also to Ashford Tetteh Oku of Close Marking Consult for the smooth closure of this case.”

I’m not undermining Dr Kyei – NCC Chairman Chris Demanya https://www.saharafootball.net/im-not-undermining-dr-kyei-ncc-chairman-chris-demanya/ https://www.saharafootball.net/im-not-undermining-dr-kyei-ncc-chairman-chris-demanya/#respond Sat, 25 Apr 2020 19:47:59 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=25698 I’m not undermining Dr Kyei – NCC Chairman Chris Demanya

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is undoubtedly one of the biggest football franchise if not the biggest in the country, it’s presence on the continent is deeply reassuring, and to be handed the top reigns of the job is clearly not for the faint-hearted.

Chairman of the club, Dr. Kyei this week has another of the looming problems to deal with, this time with the club’s National Circles Council (Supporters Union)

This week reports circled that the top management of the club and the National Circles are at each other’s neck yet again, with special mention to the latter’s boss, Christopher Damenya pinned as looking to take over from Dr. Kwame Kyei

Damenya has strongly dispelled those suggestions of trying to undermine the tenure of Executive Chairman of the club, Dr. Kwame Kyei, insisting he has the interest of the club at heart similar to his boss.

However, in an interview with Kumasi based Nhyira FM, Damenya insisted he has massive respect for Dr. Kwame Kyei and has no intention of taking over his job.

“We are all working in the interest of Asante Kotoko,”

“If I have anything to do, I will offer my support to Dr. Kyei to ensure he succeeds. He is the Executive Chairman of the club and there is no way I will undermine his work.

“I want to undermine his work, I will be moving from radio station to the other but I am not interested in that because we all want the club to succeed,” he added.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko in recent times have been hit with a fine from FIFA to cough a whopping $240,000 to settle Tunisia outfit Esperance, who are in a legal tussle with the club over a breach in contract terms with Emmanuel Clottey, whose transfer dates back to 2015.

Hopefully, the standoff between the management and the supporter’s wing of the club is settled amicably or else it’s rippling effects won’t be desirable for the Kotoko fraternity.

The Ghana Premier League is currently on hold as the country together with the world battles the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, a total of 841 cases, 83 recovered as well as 8 deaths.

Dr. Kyei has plans to settle Kotoko debts – Deputy Accra rep Nana Dankwah https://www.saharafootball.net/dr-kyei-plans-settle-kotoko-debts-deputy-accra-rep-nana-dankwah/ https://www.saharafootball.net/dr-kyei-plans-settle-kotoko-debts-deputy-accra-rep-nana-dankwah/#respond Mon, 20 Apr 2020 09:46:12 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=25671 Dr. Kyei has plans to settle Kotoko debts – Deputy Accra rep Nana Dankwah

The National Circles Council of Asante Kotoko have recently written to request to support the club in the face of its increasing problems.

The supporter’s wing says efforts to assist the club in these difficult times have proved futile because Executive Chairman, Dr. Kwame Kyei has refused to answer their calls.

The NCC says they have made frantic attempts to personally reach Dr. Kwame Kyei but all have been met with concrete walls of frustrations.

In a recent interview with Oyerepa FM, the NCC P.R.O. Osei Owusu says all attempts to reach Kwame Kyei have failed hence their last resort of writing to management to work out a way to help.

“We have been trying to get in touch with Dr. Kwame Kyei but to no avail so have written to management on issues”.

“He’s not picking our calls and we have tried his office and house but to no avail.”

“We want to help management pay for the $240,000 so we want to meet him discuss how we can contribute”.

“We just looking for his approval”, he concluded.

In a related development, Deputy Greater Accra Representative for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Kwame Dankwah has assured supporters of the club that Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei is making arrangements to settle the $240,000 fine the club has been slapped with by FIFA.

In an interview with Joy FM, he remarked that Dr. Kyei will settle the debts and that the current coronavirus pandemic was the best off times to take money from supporters.

“Our supporters should remain calm. There is no cause for alarm. In fact, the Chairman is just organizing himself to pay the money”,

“The supporters front even wrote to Management for permission to organise fundraising but looking at the situation [vis-à-vis COVID-19], people are not working. So, taking money from the fans is not appropriate”, the deputy Accra rep shared.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have barely a month to settle their outstanding debts or face demotion to the lower leagues of Ghana football.

The Ghana Premier League is currently suspended as the whole country is in a state of lockdown in communal efforts to battle the growing pandemic.

A total of 1042 cases have been confirmed, 99 persons fully recovered whiles 9 persons dead.

Stop blaming Dr. Kyei and the management – Nana Gyambibi Coker https://www.saharafootball.net/stop-blaming-dr-kyei-management-nana-gyambibi-coker/ https://www.saharafootball.net/stop-blaming-dr-kyei-management-nana-gyambibi-coker/#comments Tue, 05 Nov 2019 19:29:11 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=23622 Stop blaming Dr. Kyei and the management – Nana Gyambibi Coker

Dr. Kwame Kyei’s personal assistant Nana Gyambibi Coker has stated that the players should be blamed for the club’s failures in Africa and not the management.

Asante Kotoko crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 on aggregate against FC San Pedro on Sunday in Abidjan.

Following the club’s failure in Africa, fans have questioned the management of the club and their decision to appoint Kjetil Zachariassen and sacking CK Akonnor.

Nana Coker came to the defence of the management insisting that the players should be blamed instead of the coach.

“How can’t we deal with the inability and the indiscipline attitude of the players and stop blaming Dr. Kyei and his management whenever Kotoko losses a match,” Coker told OTEC Fm.

“Why must management be always accused and vilified anytime Kotoko loses a match whiles a player has been signed and paid to deliver on the pitch. Is the team beyond being beaten in a competition? He asked.

Kjetil Zacahariassen didn’t travel back with the Asante Kotoko squad on Monday and has been advised by the club to resign, an offer the Norwegian refused to accept.

You must accept the criticism – Dr Kwame Kyei to Kotoko players https://www.saharafootball.net/must-accept-criticism-dr-kwame-kyei-kotoko-players/ https://www.saharafootball.net/must-accept-criticism-dr-kwame-kyei-kotoko-players/#comments Mon, 04 Nov 2019 13:51:05 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=23569 You must accept the criticism – Dr Kwame Kyei to Kotoko players

Asante Kotoko Chairman, Dr. Kwame Kyei has urged the players to accept criticisms and backlash from the media and fans after the club’s elimination in the CAF Competitions.

The Porcupines exited from the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 on aggregate against FC San Pedro on Sunday in Ivory Coast.

The Asante Kotoko team and management are heavily criticized by the fans and media after they failed to make it to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dr. Kyei believes that the fans were justified as he warns the players against responding to any hostile reception that may await their arrival.

“People may rain insults on you as you return to Ghana, but you should not be bothered because I, the Chairman, would not be spared either,” he said during an interaction with the players on Monday.

“A section of the media bashes me for good and bad reasons every day. Some of the claims are sometimes too extreme but i pick lessons from the positive ones as well. That has never derailed my focus.”

“You must accept criticism because every supporter of Kotoko has the right to be upset by what just happened”

“I urge you to focus on your careers and what you can do for the club rather than letting what the people say affect you. There have been times that people came to me to complain about why we won a match by only 1-0”

Executive Chairman of Asante Kotoko Dr. Kwame Kyei could contest for the GFA Presidency following pressure from the masses, according to the Greater Accra rep of the club, Nana Kwame Dankwa.

Nana Kwame Dankwa disclosed that the affable football administrator qualifies to run for the seat and is seen by the masses as the right man to turn the fortunes of Ghana Football.

“He is the executive chairman of Asante Kotoko, he qualifies to run for the GFA Presidency, It will interest you to know the number of people knocking on his door and persuading him to contest the GFA Presidency,” he told Oyerepa FM.

“They believe he will be a better GFA Boss and so I can tell you he is doing consultations whether to contest or not,” he added.

Despite the pressure from the public and some football persons, the Business mogul is yet to decide whether or not to contest for the top job.

“He has not decided yet, he will officially come out to declare his intentions whether to contest or not. Most of the people pressuring him to say he can turn things around if he’s the GFA President,” Nana Kwame told Oyerepa FM.

Dr. Kwame Kyei has won over fans of Asante Kotoko with the tremendous change at the club that has seen them reaches the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors are through to the second round of the CAF Champions League after eliminating Kano Pillars of Nigeria.

Within the short period at the helm of affairs, the Porcupine Warriors have won the FA Cup and the inaugural normalization committee special competition.
