Ghana defender Abdul Rahman Baba is close to joining Greek club PAOK Thessaloniki on loan from Chelsea.

The full-back is bound to for a six-month loan move to PAOK to try and get his career back on track having spent six months with the Blues’ U23 team.

The 26-year-old arrived at Chelsea in August 2015 from German Bundesliga side Augsburg for a fee of around €26 million but has found his chances limited coupled with series of injuries.

This will add up to other loan deals (Schalke, Reims, and Mallorca) he has had in the past.

Several English clubs have enquired about the availability of Chelsea’s Baba Rahman on a season-long loan.

The three notable clubs, Watford, Stoke, and Middleborough are looking to add the talented full-back to their ranks, whose career has been long greeted with waves of injuries.

The 26-year-old has not been able to realize his full potential since earning a stellar move to Chelsea FC in a £14 million ($18m) deal from Augsburg.

His initial struggles worsen when he got injured on international duty with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations sustaining a cruciate ligament injury which has left him struggling to rediscover his form since then.

However, there have been positive drawn from his three loan spells with German side, Schalke, French club Reims as well as Spanish setup Real Mallorca and now he looks set for his first loan in English football.

Baba Rahman can make a move to any of these clubs prior to the EFL transfer window which is bound to close not later than October 16.

Hopefully, he will be able to get his confidence back on track and fight for a place in Frank Lampard’s new squad.

Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman has suffered a partial rupture to the lateral ligament tear in his right knee and is expected to be out until the end of the year.

The left-back was in LaLiga action for loan club Real Mallorca away to Getafe last Sunday but was forced to leave the game after twisting his knee just 18 minutes into what was his second start of the season. He had joined the side on transfer deadline day but couldn’t make his debut until match-day 4 against Atletico Bilbao the previous week.

According to reports in the Spanish media, medical tests carried out in Palma indicate that Baba will miss two to three months of competition.



This also means Baba will miss Ghana’s batch of international games in November. The Black Stars are scheduled to honor their first two games in the 2021 Africa Cup on Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sudan during the Fifa international window in November.

Back at the club level, the absence of Baba Rahman represents a significant setback for Mallorca manager Vicente Moreno who had entrusted him with the left-back position in the side’s last two games.

Moreno will have to rely on compatriot Lumor Agbenyenu (also on loan from Sporting Lisbon) as the only natural left-back in the Mallorca squad.

Baba only returned to full fitness early this year from cruciate ligament damage in 2017 which kept him out for 15 months. He spent a half-season at French side Stade Reims before jumping on another loan opportunity at Real Mallorca this summer.

Ghana defender Baba Rahman is a target for French giants Olympique de Marseille in the summer transfer window. 

The Chelsea left-back popped up on the radar of the European heavyweights after impressing on loan at Stade de Reims last season.

Rahman, who is on the books of English side Chelsea is yet to establish himself with the London club and has spent most of his time on loan.

But reports indicate Olympique Marseille are set to make a 5 million Euros bid for the Ghanaian, who is back on form following his stupendous performances at the Nations Cup.

Les Phocéens narrowly missed out on a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League but will compete in the Europa League.

And the clubs are beefing up their squad for the competition and the Ligue 1 with the signing of Baba, who is expected to give competition to former Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi.

Rahman played 11 times for Reims last season, scoring a goal and making an assist.

Baba Rahman passed his medical on Tuesday and have signed a contract with Stade Reim till the end of the season.

It is evident that the Black Stars player opted to move to France in order to get playing time and possibly get a call up for the next Africa Cup of Nations that will be coming off this summer.

Baba Rahman is yet to make a big impact at Chelsea since he arrived the club from Ausburg in 2015, he made 23 appearances for Mourinho during a disappointing campaign.

His career have gone downhill since Mourinho left the club, he joined Shcalke on a loan move when Antonio Conte was appointed.

Villarreal and Girona have contacted Chelsea on the possibility of signing the defender.

The 24-year old defender spent more than a year out aftertearing his cruciate ligament in the Africa Cup Of Nations with Ghana.

Chelsea have a lot of options for the left back position and will consider selling Baba Rahman.

Rahman was a £21.7m signing from Augsburg when he joined the Stamford Bridge club in August 2015, but he has yet to make the sufficient impact, having made only 23 total appearances for the Blues.

The defender is seen as an option to help Villarreal steer away from the Liga relegation zone, while Girona are outsiders for a Europa League spot.

Rahman moved to Schalke last summer in search of playing time but his ambitions were thwarted by series of injuries.

According to BILD, Schalke are ready to let Baba Rahman return to Chelsea after the management and the player have decided that the move haven’t worked out so far.

Chelsea will likely send Rahman to a second loan spell till the end of the season if Schalke terminates the loan deal.

Baba Rahman has made only four appearance for Schalke this season.
