Godson Awako encourages young players https://www.saharafootball.net/godson-awako-encourages-young-players/ https://www.saharafootball.net/godson-awako-encourages-young-players/#comments Sat, 11 Apr 2020 17:55:53 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=25588 Godson Awako encourages young players

Accra Great Olympics deputy captain Gladson Awako has encouraged young lads to aspire to greater heights in their careers in order to build a concrete legacy, so as to reap the financial dividends that come with it at the end of their careers.

The experienced midfielder believes players have themselves to blame if they don’t train hard, listen to instructions and become disciplined in order for them to secure moves abroad because playing in the local league isn’t lucrative enough to boast a player up financially after drawing the curtains on his playing career.

In a recent interview with Accra based Asempa FM, he lamented about the meager salaries players receive and other financial burdens placed on them by their dependents.

“If someone claims, that you can play your career here in Ghana, succeed and enjoy life in the future, it is never true,” he said.

“It’s either you get the chance to be in any of the national teams (then that’s cool)”

“How much do they even pay us as signing-on fees, so if someone says you can play here and be very comfortable, take very good care of your kids and your family, it’s flawed”.

Gladson Awako currently plays with one of the traditional clubs of the country, Accra Great Olympics, after playing with Heart of Lions, Berekum Chelsea before a move to DR Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

Great Olympics coach Annor Walker has revealed he will beef up his squad with eight experienced players during the second transfer window.

The Wonder Club endured a purple patchy run of form in the suspended Ghana Premier League.

Despite moving up on the ladder after winning a protest against Medeama.

But coach Annor Walker says he will augment his squad with at least eight experienced and matured players during the second transfer window.

“Olympics lack players hungry for success. The transfer window is here with us and as a club, we need to be busy and get some experience hands to come in and rescue the club from its current position,”

“Frankly, I came in and met three central defenders and apart from Jamaldeen Haruna, the rest cannot help the team and I need to strengthen that side.

“Also I do not have midfielders. In modern football, you play with attacking midfielders and even if you have one striker and more midfielders you can get the much-needed results with the right approach.

“Quaye was not playing when I came in but I had to work on him and get him to deliver for me and the team and I must say he is proving to be our savior but he needs support upfront to score more.”

Accra Great Olympics secured three points when the Ghana FA (GFA) awarded them three boardroom points in their protest against league leaders Medeama.

In the said match, the home side fielded Nana Kofi Babil, who had received three prior bookings and should have served a one-match ban was fielded by his side against Olympics which they ultimately won by a solitary goal.

Ghana Premier League: Referee handed four-match ban https://www.saharafootball.net/ghana-premier-league-referee-handed-four-match-ban/ https://www.saharafootball.net/ghana-premier-league-referee-handed-four-match-ban/#comments Wed, 12 Feb 2020 11:00:19 +0000 http://www.saharafootball.net/?p=24919 Ghana Premier League: Referee handed four-match ban

Ghana Premier League referee Hamid Sessay has been banned for four games over incidents that transpired in the game between Acra Great Olympics and WAFA SC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Full GFA Statement:

Referee Hamid Sessay has been handed a four-match ban in respect of the Ghana Premier League match between Great Olympics and WAFA in Accra.

The GFA Referees Committee took this decision after receiving two complaints from Great Olympics on the performance of the Referee.

The first complaint was on a penalty claim after Gladson Awako “was heavily brought down” on 62 minute inside the penalty box.

The second complaint relates to a foul on the same player in the 70th minute which Olympics again felt they deserved a penalty.

After a critical review, the Committee found that the referee was correct not to give a penalty in the complaint on the 62nd-minute because the incident happened outside the box and there was no contact between the defender and the attacking player.

However, it was found out that the second incident merited a penalty because the defender brought down the Olympics forward in the penalty box in the full view of the referee. The referee, therefore, made a clear and obvious error in ignoring it.

The committee also found that Referee Hamid Sessay was generally not at his best for that particular game.

It was therefore recommended that a four-match ban be placed on referee Sessay for the clear and obvious error. The length of the ban takes into account the fact that this is the first infraction on his part this season.
