Razak Abalora divides opinions on Kotoko move

Ghana Premier League giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko are on a spending spree signing players from all cylinders in the country to properly augment their squad ahead of the domestic and continental competitions.

In recent times, the club moved swiftly to acquire the services of former Ghana Premier League shot-stopper Razak Abalora from Tanzanian giants Azam FC in the ongoing transfer window.

On Tuesday, his official announcement was greeted with mixed feelings with some suggesting that he will bring the needed competition to the team more importantly the goalkeeping department of the club.

However, Former Ghana international Stephen Frimpong Manso in a recent interview with Spice FM, strongly believes the arrival of Razak Abalora will give the technical team a conundrum ahead of the new season.

“It will be problematic for Kotoko to add Razak Abalora to their set up without sending any of the goalkeepers out, they are all equally good to start and would even give the coach selection headache” he ended.

However, former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Anthony Osei Kwadwo, a former goalkeeper, who faced a similar issue during his playing days has tipped Maxwell Konadu to find a lasting solution to a brewing goalkeeping issue at the club.

“Maxwell is a good coach, so it’s not even necessary for me to advise him. I believe him, it won’t be like he is favoring Kwame Baah alone. If he makes a mistake he will change him. Same applies to Abalora and the others,” he told Silver FM.

Anthony Osei Kwadwo was also part of Ghana’s bronze medal-winning team at the 1992 Olympic Games football event.

It remains to be seen whether the Porcupine Warriors will maintain the four goalkeepers, (Razak Abalora, Felix Annan, Kwame Baah, Ibrahim Danlaad) in the upcoming season or ship some out to other clubs.

Kotoko have stormed Koforidua to feverishly prepare for the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season which kicks off, November 13, 2020.
