The former Trinidad and Tobago striker, speaking to Asempa FM.

“It is a job that most top coaches will be interested in because of the history of Ghanaian football,”

“I have friends like Sammy Kuffour, and he speaks highly of Ghanaian football, so I am very much interested in the Ghana coaching job.” – he said

Yorke, a key member of Manchester United’s 1999 treble-winning side and holder of a UEFA Pro Licence, previously managed Macarthur FC in Australia and the Trinidad and Tobago national team.

A five-member search committee has been set-up by  the Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry after Carlos Queiroz resigned following a poor start to 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

The Black Stars of Ghana sit bottom of their group with no points after defeats to Ivory Coast and The Gambia.

NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah sacked https://www.saharafootball.net/nsa-director-general-yaw-ampofo-ankrah-sacked/ https://www.saharafootball.net/nsa-director-general-yaw-ampofo-ankrah-sacked/#respond Thu, 01 Oct 2026 15:18:31 +0000 https://www.saharafootball.net/?p=47775
National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has been asked to step down from his position, bringing his tenure at the sports governing body to an end.
Mr Ankrah, who has been serving as the acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority, has reportedly received communication regarding the decision.
His departure comes at a time when the NSA has been under scrutiny over a number of issues, including matters surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa facilitation arrangements.
However, there is no official indication that the visa-related controversy is the reason for the decision, and the circumstances surrounding his exit have not been publicly explained.
The NSA previously denied allegations surrounding a visa facilitation scheme linked to the 2026 World Cup and said its legal team was cooperating with a police investigation. [Ghana News Agency
The development also comes weeks after President John Dramani Mahama dissolved the governing board of the National Sports Authority on September 2, 2026. At the time, reports indicated that the dissolution of the board did not affect Ankrah’s separate appointment as Director-General, and that he remained responsible for the NSA’s day-to-day administration.
Prof. Emmanuel Sarpong will replace Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah as the NSA’s Director-General.

Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also served on the board.
The decision comes as Ghana prepares for key sporting commitments, including infrastructure work and events linked to hosting the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The 28-year-old, who featured for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, travelled to Cairo on Monday, August 24, where Al-Swehly were holding a training camp ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round campaign.
He has signed a three-year deal after successful medicals.
The transfer follows the collapse of a proposed move to Turkish Super Lig club Gençlerbirliği.
Al-Swehly, the reigning Libyan league champions, reportedly tabled a highly lucrative package—described in some reports as around $5 million—that made the midfielder one of Ghana’s highest-earning players.
Sibo is set to link up with Zambian forward Lameck Banda at the club and will gain the chance to compete in Africa’s top club competition.
The Black Stars midfielder will hope to make his mark on the African terrain through his new Libyan club.

According to him, he would do everything within his power to get a new face to ascend to the highest position in the country’s football office.
This comes after many suggested that the current President, Kurt Okraku, wants to go for another term as President, having served two previous terms already.
“I will do everything in my power to see a new person emerge as GFA President,” he told Sporty FM’s Fiifi Banson.
Afriyie, who served as GFA Vice President under Kwesi Nyantakyi and finished as runner-up to incumbent Kurt Okraku in the 2019 presidential election, faced high-profile disqualification battles over vetting processes in subsequent attempts to challenge Okraku.

George Afriyie casts doubt on Desmond Ofei selection as Black Stars coach https://www.saharafootball.net/george-afriyie-casts-doubt-on-desmond-ofei-selection-as-black-stars-coach/ https://www.saharafootball.net/george-afriyie-casts-doubt-on-desmond-ofei-selection-as-black-stars-coach/#respond Mon, 17 Aug 2026 18:32:49 +0000 https://www.saharafootball.net/?p=47059 Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has shared strong views on the ongoing search for a new Black Stars head coach.
During the interview, he questioned the potential appointment of Desmond Ofei, who has been tightly linked to the vacant Black Stars job following the inability of the Sports Ministry and Carlos Queiroz to reach a notable agreement.
Afriyie believes making him the senior national team boss would be a step backwards for the country.
According to the football administrator, Ofei is best suited as a developmental coach.
“If today we are looking for a coach for the Black Stars and Desmond Ofei is the answer, then we have a problem,” Afriyie stated bluntly on Sporty FM
The Ghana Football Association will hope to appoint a new head coach as the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers loom, with matches against Ivory Coast and The Gambia coming up in September.
