New Arsenal signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed Manchester United‘s Europa League final victory over Ajax last season was the best game he has ever played in.
Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in a swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez earlier this week. He made 63 appearances for the Manchester United in total, scoring 13 goals.
The Armenian never quite saw eye to eye with manager Jose Mourinho and struggled to replicate his Borussia Dortmund form at Old Trafford.
He did have a strong start to the current season, registering five assists in his opening three games, but was dropped from the squad entirely following a poor performance in the 0-1 loss away to Chelsea.
Regardless, the midfielder impressed in United’s Europa League winning campaign last term, scoring six goals – including one in the final.
And during a Q&A session with his new club, when asked what the best game he ever played in was, he responded: “The Europa League final against Ajax last season.”
The Armenian was quizzed on a series of other football-related questions in the video and said that he thought Lionel Messi was the best footballer of all-time.
He went on to state that his first-ever football kit was an AC Milan shirt and described Zinedine Zidane as his childhood hero, saying: “The way he played was amazing. He was like an artist on the pitch.” Mkhitaryan also called Thierry Henry Arsenal’s greatest player.
