Andrea Pirlo has insisted new Barcelona signing Philippe Coutinho is worth £145 million after officially joining from Liverpool on Monday.
A deal for Coutinho was announced on Saturday before the Brazilian was presented as Barcelona player on Sunday.
The move, worth £145m, was Liverpool’s second big involvement of the transfer window with the Reds having signed defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75m.
And, according to Pirlo, Coutinho should have been sold for at least double that price,
“Other than the crazy prices, the price of Coutinho is in line with the prices of today,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia (via FI).
“If Van Dijk is worth €80m then he costs double. It’s only fair.”
Coutinho has agreed a five-and-a-half year deal with Barcelona having made 152 Premier League appearances for Liverpool.
But the Brazilian will have to wait at least three weeks for his debut after suffering with a hamstring injury.
